DescriptionAli Baba Goes to Town (20th Century Fox, 1938). Pre-War Belgian (23.25" X 30.25").
Playing a hobo that winds up as a Hollywood extra, Eddie Cantor falls asleep on a movie set of Arabian Nights and dreams he's in Baghdad as an advisor to the Sultan. In a spoof of Roosevelt's New Deal, he organizes work programs, taxes the rich and abolishes the army. The comedy has plenty of big name stars among its cast, including Tony Martin, June Lang, Roland Young, Gypsy Rose Lee, and John Carradine. A fantastic caricature of Cantor takes the spotlight on this colorful stone Belgian, the first that Heritage has ever offered. Professional restoration has addressed fold wear and separations with some chipping. Unaddressed issues include pinholes in the corners, unobtrusive stains, and a bit of writing bleedthrough in Cantor's mouth. There is a tape stain in the lower border. Fine+ on Linen.
Estimate: $400 - $800.
