Description
The Son of the Sheik (United Artists, 1926). Very Fine. Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").It was Rudolph Valentino's portrayal of Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan in The Sheik (1921) that made him a worldwide icon. Although the movie was criticized on virtually every level, it was an overwhelming success at the box office, which lead to this big-budget sequel. The Son of the Sheik is everything The Sheik was not. Exciting, adventurous, thrilling, and wildly romantic, the movie presents a confident Valentino at the peak of his creative powers. Tragically, it would be the last picture in which Valentino would appear, as he died from a perforated ulcer on August 23, 1926, at the age of 31. The cards exhibit soft corners, minor edge wear with light toning, and some very faint scuffs, spots, or finger prints in the white margins. There is a puncture hole at the top of the card with Valentino standing and the portrait card has a faint top left corner crease. Scarce paper from an important film, the cards present beautifully overall.
