    Description

The Private Life of Don Juan (United Artists, 1934). Austrian Three Sheet (49" X 108.5") and Original Concept Art (8.5" X 13.75").
Directed by Alexander Korda, the British master of adventure films, this was to be Douglas Fairbanks' final film before retirement. Fairbanks had made his reputation in the cinema playing famous swashbucklers and was considered a natural for the legendary Don Juan. But art would mirror life as in the story, Don Juan retires as well by faking his death, only he finds it difficult to succeed with the ladies when they all believe he has died. Although Fairbanks was unused to playing in sound films, he would still turn out one of his finest performances in this classic. This poster is from Austria and is absolutely breath-taking in both its scope and design. It mimics a playing-card motif and depicts the legendary silent icon twice as the true "King of Hearts." One of the most amazing things about this lot is that it includes the original conceptual art by Margit Kovats who designed this and many other posters during the early 1930s. It's almost unheard of to find the original art that went with these posters much less the original concept art. The poster has had minor restoration to some surface scuffing of Fairbanks chin in both the upper and lower sections. The art concept was mounted to cardstock and shows minor rubbing to the green background. This represents a truly unique opportunity to acquire one of the best images of Fairbanks we've seen. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
