The Iron Mask (United Artists, 1929). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41.25").
As the silent era of film was being overtaken by talkies, famed actor Douglas Fairbanks could see the end coming for his beloved format. Fairbanks said goodbye to silent films in 1929's The Iron Mask, a film that, even though it does contain a few sequences featuring sound, was largely silent. His final silent performance was a memorable one, with the actor returning to the role of D'Artagnan in a sequel to 1921's The Three Musketeers. Fairbanks, a huge star of the era, dominates this wonderful stone litho poster. Prior to restoration, this poster displayed light edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, pinholes, and small chips and tears. There is also a misfold along the horizontal fold in the image of Fairbanks's face, and there are minor tears in the title. Restoration has addressed most of these issues, and the borders have been airbrushed. The poster now displays beautifully!
