    Description

The Hurricane (United Artists, 1937). Good+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Based off of the novel co-written by James Norman Hall, the uncle of the film's leading actor, John Ford's adventure-romance pits Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall against racism and a merciless tempest sweeping across the South Seas. Particularly praised for special effects guru James Basevi's powerful storm scene, this suspenseful story gained Academy Award nominations in the categories of Best Supporting Actor for Thomas Mitchell, Best Musical Score, and won Best Sound Recording. Once displayed in the Gallery of Film Poster Art at California State Northridge, this one sheet has had corrections made to fold wear and separation, pinholes, misfolds, and tears. Also addressed were chips and some paper extending from the left border into Dorothy Lamour's shoulder at the middle fold. Some of these issues are still visible, as is some staining.
