Description

The Eagle of the Sea (Paramount, 1926). One Sheet (27" X 40.75") Style A.
Heritage has sold this beautiful stone litho poster only once previously, in 2012. It's filled with a dramatic, scarlet-washed image of Ricardo Cortez as Captain Sazarac and Florence Vidor as Louise Lestron (the woman he loves). This swashbuckling tale of piracy and adventure on the high seas is based on a novel by Charles Tenney Jackson. Sazarac must protect both himself and his beloved from the depredations of Louise's evil uncle (Sam DeGrasse), who plots to embroil England and Spain in a war with Sazarac's help. The film also featured a little known actor, Boris Karloff who was still five years away from creating his legendary monster in Frankenstein. The piece has been professionally restored, with touchup to a small chip in the top left and top center border, a tear in the right border, a tear in the bottom border with small paper loss, pinholes in the corners, small surface paper loss and a minor chip in the vertical fold and crossfold. Fine+ on Linen.
