Description

    Tarzan the Ape Man (MGM, 1932). Pre-War Belgian (23.25" X 30.25").
Based on the famous adventure novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, this initial entry into MGM's series was a tremendous success, with a total of six films done at the studio starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Weissmuller had already gained his own claim to fame as a world class swimmer, winning five gold medals at the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics. But it was his role as Burroughs' literary wildman that would cement his legacy, remembered forever as the definitive Tarzan. Paper from this title is scarce even in the United States, making it likely that not many of these rare pre-war Belgians have survived. There is touchup to the three horizontal folds, a small tear at the bottom, and a reattached chip from the bottom border to the "F" in "Film Parlant." Both the left and right borders have been replaced up to the image. There is a trim at the top of the imprint area. Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
