Tarzan and the Golden Lion (FBO, 1927). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
The lead role of this early Tarzan film was given to James Pierce, a star football player that creator Edgar Rice Burroughs' met at one of his house parties. Also in attendance at the party was Burroughs' daughter Joan, whom Pierce later married. Although this was the only picture Pierce was to star in, and he and Joan would go on to voice Tarzan and Jane on national radio. This lost film is also notable for a small character role, played by a young Boris Karloff. The story follows Tarzan and his Golden Lion, as they come to the rescue of heroine Edna Murphy, kidnapped by a diamond smuggler. Paper from the early Tarzan films is always highly prized, we have only previously sold cards from this title twice. The card has minor edge wear at the right, the wrong actor's name incorrectly written in ink at the top edge, a pinhole in the top left corner, a chip in the top right corner, and a smaller one in the lower left corner. These issues do not detract from the bright color of this stunning image of Pierce and Murphy. Fine+.
