Description
Superman (Columbia, 1948, 1950). Pressbooks (2) (Multiple Pages). After almost ten years, Columbia studios was able to negotiate a deal with DC Comics to bring the "Man of Steel" to the screen. Though Paramount/Fleischer had produced some wonderful cartoon episodes with the character, this would be the first screen appearance of a live-action Superman. The 15-episode serial begins with the origin of the character on the planet Krypton, and evolves into a story of an evil Spider Lady out to destroy the city of Metropolis. Offered in this lot is the original 15-page pressbook for the first serial, and the 15-page pressbook for the second Superman serial, "Atom Man vs. Superman." The 1948 pressbook has some cover spine separation at the top of the spine and a 2" tear in the cover near the top of the spine. It has never been folded. The 1950 serial pressbook was folded horizontally midway in the book. There are three pieces of cellophane tape in the exterior of the book binding. There are a few pieces of tape on the back cover as well. There are no cuts on either of the books and both display very well. There are wonderful images of all of the posters and lobbies as well as other display items and the promotional toys. We here at Heritage have seen a lot of the serial material over the years, but this is the first time we have seen these scarce books. Fine+.Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details.
