    Description

Ingagi (Congo Pictures, 1931). Window Card (14" X 22"). Adventure. Starring Sir Hubert Winsted,, Charles Gemora and Louis Nizor. Directed by William Campbell. Due to the withdrawal of this film from distribution, paper is impossible to find. It was one of the greatest hoaxes in Hollywood history. The film purported to have 'documentary' footage of a 'Congolese' woman being dragged into the Congo Jungle for procreation purposes. What it actually was, was a film made on a Hollywood back lot with stock footage sprinkled throughout, with a well known Hollywood extra as the Congolese girl and journeyman simian portrayer Charles Gemora as the "Wild Ape." When the distributors were threatened by lawsuits, they withdrew the film and most of the paper was destroyed since the film would not be shown again. We have had only one piece on this rare title, and that was 5 years ago. While not mint, there is little here, due to the duo-tone printing and placement of the problem areas, that could not be easily addressed by any competent restoration artist. Chip out of the lower left corner, scuffs and abrasions in the credit area and left border, tear in the lower left border, one pinhole, staining in the top right border, and stencilled theatre information in the imprint area. Very Good+.
