His Majesty, the American (United Artists, 1919). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
In the first movie produced and released by the fledgling United Artists, Douglas Fairbanks portrays William Brooks, a prince who is completely unaware of his royal lineage. He loves adventure and performs daring stunts wherever he goes, even rescuing people in peril and capturing Pancho Villa for an afternoon's diversion. When his country suddenly finds itself in jeopardy, he returns home and saves his country as well. Fairbanks was known for doing his own stunts and this film certainly kept the masses entertained with them. All of the cards for this title are hand-tinted and one can easily see the difference in color when you compare them to other known lobbies. Several of the cards have some very minor ink stains and smudges and one card (a stunt scene) has a tiny chip off of the lower right corner. Cards for this title are exceptionally rare and this is the only complete set we've come across. Fine/Very Fine.
