    Description

Gunga Din (RKO, 1939). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27.5" X 41") Style B.
Inspired by the Rudyard Kipling poem of the same name, Gunga Din stars Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as three British sergeants stationed at an outpost in India as they journey with a native water bearer named Gunga Din (Sam Jaffe) in an attempt to stop a murderous cult. Never before offered at Heritage is this wonderful style B one sheet for the film which emphasizes romance over the action and comedy emphasized by the more common style A one sheet. Dominating the image on this version of the poster is the love between Sgt. Ballantine (Fairbanks) and Emmy Stebbins (Joan Fontaine), though, of course, there is still plenty of action going on behind them. Prior to backing on linen, the poster displayed edge and fold wear, chips, creases, pinholes, fold separations, and tears. Some of the tears extend into the image area, and there is one tear that extends from the top edge of the poster down to the top horizontal fold. Touchup has been applied to many of these issues, though some issues including small chips in the borders are still visible. The poster also has some light smudges and stains, and there is some white paint in the border.
