Description
Cabiria (Italia Film, 1914). Program (Multiple Pages). Inspired by grand opera and Italy's imperialist victory in the Libyan War (1911-12), the Italian movie industry produced dozens of historical epics in the period just before World War I. The most influential and successful of these was Cabiria, the visually spectacular film which set the standard for the big-budget feature-length movies around the world and opened the way for D.W. Griffith and Cecil B. De Mille. This 8" X 11" program produced for the New York premiere of the silent film has 16 pages of text and photos. The front cover has some corner and edge chips, and several scratches. The back cover, which features a map showing the locations mentioned in the movie, has soiling and an edge chip, and a damaged area where it appears tape removed the top layer of ink. Some inside pages show light soiling and staining, and some have edge chips. The detailed libretto includes wonderful graphics, and this program is quite rare.
