Adventures of Kathlyn (Selig, 1914). British One Sheet (30" X 40") Chapter 6 -- "Three Bags of Silver."
Adventures of Kathlyn was considered to be the first true "cliffhanger" serial. Each of the thirteen chapters had a suspenseful ending, luring audiences back to the theaters for the next installment. Kathlyn Williams is the attractive daughter of an explorer (Lafe McKee) who lived in a mythical land, spurning the advances of native Umballah (Charles Clary), and navigating hostile jungle fauna. The live animals used in the series and for other Selig productions eventually became the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles Zoo. This is the first poster Heritage has presented from this series, and it's quite an outstanding one to start with! A lovely example of stone lithography, the piece has been paperbacked and touchup applied to a tear in the bottom border that extends to the top border, a tear in the left border into the background, tear in the right border, and missing paper in the bottom and left border and in "melodrama." Very Good on Paper.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
