Description

    Adventures of Kathlyn (Selig, 1914). British One Sheet (30" X 40") Chapter 12 -- "The King's Will."
Produced by the Selig Polyscope Company and filmed in Chicago, the Adventures of Kathlyn was considered to be the first true "cliffhanger" serial. Each of the thirteen chapters had a suspenseful ending, luring audiences back to the theaters for the next installment. Based on a story by Harold MacGrath and Gilson Willets, the film stars Kathlyn Williams as the heroine. The live animals used in the series and for other Selig productions eventually became the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles Zoo. This Chapter 12 poster and the Chapter 6 version are both being offered by Heritage for the first time in the July Signature Auction. Another stone lithography gem from the series, the piece has been backed with paper that has been trimmed to the border. There has been minimal touchup to tears in the center, edge wear, and chips and tears in the borders that extend into the background. There is light rippling from the adhesive. Very rare, this poster is an excellent candidate for further restoration to enhance its innate beauty. Good/Very Good on Paper.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
