Description

RoboCop (Orion, 1987). Original Mike Bryan Poster Artwork (33.25" X 51.25").
Is there an image from the world of 1980s film more familiar than this futuristic cyborg, the "future of law enforcement?" Paul Verhoeven's dystopian film about the corruption of corporate America in the privatization of law enforcement was cited as one of the best pictures of 1987. This wonderful and very large painting is the original artwork used to produce one of the most well known movie posters of the era. Standing 33" X 40", the painting was done by artist Mike Bryan using a large blueprint that produced a ghosted image from a photograph onto paper. The artist then used airbrush, ink and colored pencil to create the photo-realistic image seen. Bryan, coming from a fine art background, made his way into the world of designing record covers (Shaved Fish , Apple, 1975 and Rock 'n' Roll Music, Columbia, 1980), and by the 1980s was in demand to produce movie posters. He did well known posters for such films as Scarface (1983), Prizzi's Honor (1985), Platoon (1986), and this sensational painting for a groundbreaking film. Also included with this lot is a signed description from the artist about the production of the artwork. The piece is in very nice condition and shows only minor wear. There is a small blemish above the character's head and a small scratch in the lower dark area below the car door. The image was produced on an ammonia based paper, which has caused it to lighten slightly into a reddish cast as seen in the upper and lower portions of the image. Heritage and the artist both want the bidder to be aware that the image was produced with an underlying element which is an ammonia based print material, and that we are not sure how it will age with time. This is a unique image created for one of the best science fiction films of the latter part of the 20th century! Very Fine-.
