Gator by Robert McGinnis (United Artists, 1976). Original Preliminary Acrylic Poster Artwork on Illustration Board (20" X 25").
Burt Reynolds, who had risen to fame in films like Deliverance and White Lightning, was finally given a chance to direct in Gator, the sequel to White Lightning. For Reynolds it was the height of his career, and he always felt he made a better director than actor. But audiences loved him, and he was listed as one of the top ten leading men in Hollywood at this time. For this picture, he was truly given the star treatment as United Artists hired famed artist Robert McGinnis to create the artwork for the films campaign. McGinnis was widely respected and known for his posters for action films, and more prominently, the James Bond series. This painting is a preliminary piece created before Robert McGinnis' final artwork. This acrylic painting shows some edge wear and corner bumps. There are unobtrusive stains, smudging, and a few pinholes that are remnants of the artistic process. Very Fine- on Illustration Board.
