    Description

    Wings (Paramount, 1927). Fine+. Linen Finish Title Lobby Card & Lobby Cards (3) (11" X 14").
Twenty-eight year old director William Wellman, himself a wartime aviator, made this film about two World War I flyers (Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen) who are in love with the same Red Cross nurse (Clara Bow). A young Gary Cooper also appeared in a small but crucial role as a veteran pilot. Wings was the first feature film to win an Academy Award. General wear between the cards includes pinholes, some creases, mostly unobtrusive stains, and small tears. These issues have been partially addressed in the title card, in addition to a tear extending from the upper right background through the "S" of the title to the lower right edge. The title card also has strips of archival and paper tape on the verso, bracing the aforementioned tear. Other wear found in the set includes surface scuffs, as well as minor chips and paper lifts. The portrait card featuring the three leads has a stain in the upper part of the image. A few of the cards display toning. Lobby cards from this silent drama are few and far between, making this lot a top choice for discerning collectors.
