West Side Story (United Artists, R-1963). Very Fine- on Linen. Autographed One Sheet (27" X 41.5") Saul Bass and Joseph Caroff Title Artwork.
Winner of ten Academy Awards, this high energy musical took America by storm in 1961 and became an instant classic. The love story of Maria and Tony - delivered impeccably by Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer - was wonderfully adapted from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, translating the rolling hills and marble balconies of fair Verona to the filthy streets and fire escapes of the New York City of old. Featuring iconic music by Leonard Bernstein, brilliant direction from Robert Wise, and an outstanding performance from Rita Moreno, the film itself is unforgettable. This one sheet is autographed by Robert Wise. Partially restored, this poster had light edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, minor tears, and a couple of very small chips. There was a paper lift at the top, surface scuff on the left side, as well as ink stamp and writing bleedthrough. Some of these issues are still visible. Very Fine- on Linen.
