    After his successful career in Germany with masterpieces such as Nosferatu and The Last Laugh, director F. W. Murnau would travel to Hollywood to create one of the most culturally significant films in motion picture history, Sunrise. George O'Brien, Janet Gaynor, and Margaret Livingston star in the moral tale of a married farmer lured by a city woman to contemplate murdering his wife. His journey of redemption with his wife is artistically portrayed, as well as heartbreaking. A cinematic tour de force, Murnau's film would earn three Academy Awards at the very first Awards ceremony in 1929, including Best Picture, and Unique and Artistic Production - the first and only time the award was ever presented. Featuring a fantastic stone litho portrait of the two leads, this window card has undergone professional restoration for a few scattered pinholes, horizontal creases, and a paper lift in Janet Gaynor's neck. There was a crease along the bottom of the imprint area where the card was folded back, and the top of the imprint area has a tear and a chip in the upper right corner. There has been touchup applied to a few spots in the image, the imprint area, and the image has had some color enhancement. Unaddressed wear included rounded corners at the bottom and some smudging. Fine.
