    On the Waterfront (Columbia, 1954). French Double Grande (62" X 90.5").
    This Oscar-winning 1954 film about mob violence and corruption among longshoremen has become a standard of its kind. Based on a series of articles written in the New York Sun by Malcolm Johnson, it tells the story of Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando), who is a washed-up ex-prizefighter in his mid-twenties working on the docks for the local gang boss, Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). The film was ranked the 8th greatest American film of all time by the AFI. French paper for this film is quite scarce, and Heritage has sold the two stunning styles of the Grande only once previously. Presenting this exquisite Double Grande with epic artwork by the exceedingly accomplished Boris Grinsson is a great pleasure. Although the piece shows fading, it will make one lucky poster collector quite proud. Restoration has addressed a chip in the top credits, chips and tears in Eva Marie Saint's hair and neck, fold wear, tears in the bottom border that extend into the background, pinholes, and a small gouge on the left side. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
