    Description

On the Waterfront (Columbia, 1954). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Full-Bleed Horizontal French Double Grande (92" X 63") Boris Grinsson Artwork.
This Oscar-winning 1954 film about mob violence and corruption among longshoremen has become a standard of its kind. Based on a series of articles written in the New York Sun by Malcolm Johnson, it tells the story of Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando), who is a washed-up ex-prizefighter in his mid-twenties working on the docks for the local gang boss, Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). The film was ranked the 8th greatest American film of all time by the AFI. Touchup has been applied to mild fold wear, some fold separations, pinholes, and slight creases. Also addressed were small chips in the folds, and a few tears, including a tear that extended from the lower edge into Eva Marie Saint's dress. There is a post-restoration scratch with very minor paper loss in the upper right edge. Boris Grinsson's striking and bold artwork makes this poster a superb display piece. French paper for this film is quite scarce, and this stunning double grande is no exception.
