The first X-rated film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture, John Schlesinger's gritty films follows a young Texan, played by John Voigt, who travels to New York to become a prostitute and with a street hustler (Dustin Hoffman). The film provides a document of New York City subcultures in the late 1960s and deals in a frank way with harder edged material than most mainstream films that came before it. This Polish poster, one of the most iconic designs of the era from any country, perfectly captures the tone of the film with pursed and painted female lips on a masculine cowboy silhouette.
