Lawrence of Arabia (Columbia, 1962). Advance Double-Sided One Sheet (29.75" X 40").During the 1950s and early 1960s the studios were doing all they could to bring the audience back into the theater as the loss to television had left most of the majors crippled. Cinemascope, 3-D, and other techniques were used to lure the audience back to the theatrical experience. This is one of those posters that may have been a marketing advancement used at the flagship theaters showing the Roadshow engagement of this film. Placed on a light box, it is perhaps one of the first of the double sided displays. We know that Paramount Studios dabbled in the limited production of double-sided posters during this period for some of their blockbuster films such as Breakfast at Tiffany's, Zulu, One Eyed Jacks, and Nevada Smith. We were unaware of any other studio producing these posters but have received this very rare double-sided one sheet to David Lean's Academy Award winning film starring Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness, and Anthony Quinn. Though similar in design to the Style B Roadshow poster by artist Howard Terpning, this rolled one sheet has a bright red title instead of black, and also lacks the Winston Churchill quotation. This may very well be the only copy of this poster to have survived due to the materials it was produced from and its fragility if mishandled. There are a couple of small repaired tears in the borders and tack holes in the lower corners and top center. There are minor crimps within the image. The poster is a full bleed. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
