    Description

It Happened One Night (Columbia, 1934). Jumbo Lobby Cards (3) (14" X 17").
This film was the first to win all five major Academy Awards and it was a feat that would not be matched until One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). Legend has it that Myrna Loy and Robert Montgomery were originally offered the roles played by Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. Considered one of the great romantic comedies, it was directed by Frank Capra and tells the tale of a pampered socialite who tries to get out from under her father's thumb, and falls in love with a roguish reporter. The plot was based on the story Night Bus by Samuel Hopkins Adams. Three very rare jumbo lobby cards are presented in this lot, showing minor wear given their age. The portrait card has a pinhole in the top background and a tear in the left border. The medium close-up shows a crease in the top border, a tear and crease in the bottom border, a crease at the bottom right, and a bottom left corner chip. The long shot has pinholes in Gable's coat and in the corners, touchup to the bottom right corner, and light surface wear in the bottom left corner. Fine/Very Fine.
