It Happened One Night (Columbia, 1934). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.
Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert shine like the stars on this lovely style B one sheet for the classic romantic comedy, It Happened One Night. Legendary director Frank Capra helmed this wonderful picture which won all five of the Academy Awards, for which it was nominated in 1934. This style poster was sold only once before, this being the better condition, at Heritage and is an excellent representation of spoiled socialite Ellie Andrews (Colbert) and newspaper reporter Peter Warne (Gable), whose relationship goes from adversarial to romantic throughout a series of adventures. The other style one sheet sold in our last auction for over $100,000! Restoration and touchup have addressed several tears in the credits and title areas, as well as a couple of tears in the image of Colbert's face. Before restoration, the poster also displayed pinholes, minute chips, creases, and fold wear. Still visible are a few minor scuffs and smudges, but restoration and airbrushing in the borders help make this poster display very well.
