Description

It Happened One Night (Columbia, 1934). Fine+ on Paper. One Sheet (26.75" X 40.25") Style A.
Despite being one of the most influential films of the 1930s, one sheets from Frank Capra's wonderful screwball comedy are exceptionally scarce, this poster marking Heritage's first opportunity to offer the fantastic Style A one sheet from the film. Many consider this title to be the first true screwball comedy of the 1930s, combining Capra's wry social commentary with a good helping of witty banter and delightful performances from Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. Before its release, there was a good deal of doubt that the Poverty Row studio Columbia could produce an A+ picture such as this, with even the lead actors expressing their own misgivings about the project. Critics and audiences, however, loved it. The picture was the first of only three titles to win all five of the Academy Awards biggest categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Printed in stone lithography, this Heritage first has had partial touchup applied to the folds, pinholes, small centerpoint chips and tears. There was a vertical scratch in Clark Gable's image that has also received some corrections. Issues that are unaddressed include unobtrusive stains. Backed on paper, this poster will be shipped rolled. Fans of classic comedies should make sure they don't miss out on such a rare one sheet as this!
