Description

Grand Hotel (MGM, 1933). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. German Three Sheet (37.5" X 81.75").
Grand Hotel is a landmark film in Hollywood history, most celebrated for popularizing the "all-star ensemble cast" format. Pulling out all the stops, MGM brought together a glittering lineup, including Greta Garbo, John and Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford, and Wallace Beery - a bold move that was initially met with skepticism, as the studio feared concentrating so many stars in one film might hurt profits. However, any doubts were soon assuaged when it became a tremendous box office hit and took home the Academy Award for Best Picture, remarkably without receiving any other nominations, a feat that is still unmatched. Furthermore, Garbo's reading of the iconic line, "I want to be alone," has become one of cinema's most famous quotes, securing a spot on the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest Movie Quotes Of All Time. The film's critical and commercial triumph paved the way for many similar star-studded productions, and this original release German three sheet, an exciting first time offer from Heritage, brilliantly showcases the picture's ensemble. Backed on linen, touchup has been applied gracefully and sparingly throughout to address fold wear, creases, minor fold and crossfold separation, small chips, and a few tears. Light toning remains visible.
