    Description

    Gone with the Wind (MGM, 1939). Pre-War Belgian (23.5" X 33.5").
A monumental Hollywood classic set around "The War of Northern Aggression," Gone With the Wind was released the year that most of Europe began another war, the one opposing the Nazi regime. Early on, King Leopold of Belgium wanted to remain neutral and thus was not pulled into the war until May of 1940. The original release of this film began in Europe in early 1940. The size of this poster indicates that it was printed pre-war. Although Heritage has sold the poster before, this version is unique. The MGM logo has not been blacked out, as it has been on almost every other copy we have seen. An undeniable beauty, the piece is filled with captivating artwork -- flames swirl in the background as Atlanta burns, Scarlett wearing a determined expression that reveals she is in fact, the quintessential Southern "steel magnolia." Signs of light use include pinholes in the top border, edge wear with tears, a faint stain on Scarlett's face, paper residue in the borders, surface paper loss in the horse, corner bends, and a tax stamp in the bottom right. A "must" for completist of this fine film! Fine.
