Description
Casablanca (Warner Brothers, R-1953). Italian 2 - Fogli (39.5" X 55") Luigi Martinati Artwork.Featuring an image so striking that the presence of a title is nearly superfluous, Luigi Martinati provides one of the most stunning illustrations ever printed for this Michael Curtiz masterpiece. Considered the cinematic definition of the term "classic," Casablanca's compelling story of love and sacrifice made this film a beloved hit both stateside and in war-ravaged Europe. Such pervasive international acclaim finally lifted Humphrey Bogart from his constant typecasting in "heavy" gangster parts, transforming him into one of the brightest stars Hollywood has ever seen. Likewise, it propelled the illustrious Ingrid Bergman into a bevy of critically acclaimed roles, such as her Academy Award winning performances in Gaslight, The Bells of St. Mary's, and Spellbound. Only sold once before by Heritage, Martinati's masterful illustration palpably exudes all of the drama, tension, and romance from one of the world's greatest love stories. A shining gem among any collection, this gorgeous poster has been restored to address a few scattered pinholes in the borders and background, chips in both left corners, and applied touchup to the folds. There were some vertical tears in the top border, one from the lower vertical fold through the title, and another at the center crossfold in Bergman's face. Unaddressed issues include a horizontal crease along the bottom border, a series of tiny nicks in the upper left border, a small tear in the upper border above the artist signature, pen marks over the printing date, and slight staining in the upper border and at the edges of the middle horizontal fold. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
