Description

    Casablanca (Warner Brothers, 1942). Insert (14" X 36").
Warner Brothers released this wartime tale in hopes it would appeal to their audiences who were facing hardships, including rationing of food and gas and the loss of loved ones in foreign lands. The studio's expectation was to bring a modest profit similar to hundreds of films turned out year after year. A script had been cobbled together by several writers, but was incomplete when production began. The star was one of the studio's secondary actors who had made a climb in billing only recently with the release of a new film called The Maltese Falcon. Eventually, everything fell into place and Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman delivered standout performances in what many consider to be one of the finest films in cinema history. Against the war-torn backdrop of Casablanca, they rekindle a romance amidst political intrigue, corruption, and murder. A triumph with critics and audiences alike, the movie went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay, and Bogart would receive his first nomination for Best Actor. Heritage is proud to offer this insert format for only the second time. It's considered one of the best posters produced for the ad campaign with all of the principal characters shown, and Bogart in his signature look, fedora, gun, trench coat. There is a bit of vertical rippling and toning along the edges, and minimal touchup was applied to extra horizontal creases, corner bends, a tear in the right and bottom border, and pinholes in the corners. There is archival tape on the verso along the three folds. This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire one of the best posters from one of cinema's masterpieces. Folded, Fine+.
