Description

    Casablanca (Warner Brothers, 1942). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style B.
In 1942, Hal B. Wallis and Michael Curtiz hired a slew of talented writers and A-list actors to make what they hoped would be a successful war drama. Instead, they created a legend. Casablanca is possibly the most beloved film of all time, ranking high on virtually every list grading Hollywood's biggest classics since the fifties. Winning much-deserved awards in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing, this film was also Humphrey Bogart's first nomination for Best Actor and perhaps his most defining role. Few other films have ever left such an indelible mark on Hollywood, nor ever created so many characters, scenes, music, and, most of all, lines that are so instantly recognizable. Already one of the rarest posters printed for this film, the style B format boasts a wonderful design with a series of portraits revealing the plot's most important characters. A great half sheet with just the image alone, the poster looks fantastic after professional restoration has addressed a pinhole in each of the corners, several very small chips in the borders, and a tear from the upper border into Conrad Veidt's hat. There were chips in the "G" in "Bogart," in the "N" of Paul Henreid's credit, and one to the right of Sydney Greenstreet's face. Touchup has been applied to the borders and some of the yellow background. This poster was never folded and was rolled prior to being conserved on paper. Still visible are some light horizontal creases to the left and faint stains in the background. No collection would ever be complete without such a fine poster for one of the greatest films ever made. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
