Description

Casablanca (Warner Bros., R-1953). Folded, Very Fine-. Italian Photobusta (13.5" X 19.25").
During World War II, American expatriate Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) runs a popular nightclub in Casablanca, a city filled with refugees desperate to escape Nazi-occupied Europe. Rick's carefully guarded neutrality is shattered when Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), a woman from his past, arrives with her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), a renowned resistance leader. Ilsa once abandoned Rick in Paris without explanation, but now seeks his help in obtaining exit visas so she and Laszlo can flee to America. Though still wounded by her betrayal, Rick learns the truth and ultimately chooses to help them escape. In a selfless act, he shoots a Nazi officer and stays behind, sacrificing his love for a greater cause. The film ends with Rick walking into the fog with Captain Renault (Claude Rains) who remarks "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Casablanca is hailed as one of the best films of all time, winning Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director for Michael Curtiz, and Best Screenplay. It was entered into the National Film Registry in 1989, its inaugural year. This wonderful poster has four slightly enlarged pinholes near the right border, light edge wear, small corner bumps and faint dimpling.
