    Description

    Casablanca (Warner Bros., R-1948). Fine+. Horizontal Italian Photobusta (13.5" X 9.75").
From one of the rarest reissue sets for the most celebrated wartime picture ever created, this star-studded photobusta is making its premiere appearance at Heritage. All four of the film's major leads, Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, and Paul Henreid, feature in the scene, the tension from their excellent performances still palpable even in this still image. The photobusta also shows off Michael Curtiz's Oscar-winning eye for direction and Arthur Edeson's skilled cinematography, taking heavy inspiration from the shadows and angles from the film noir genre. Light touchup on this piece of Italian paper has been applied to pinholes and a few tears, including a tear in Claude Rains' image and a tear from the right of the upper edge extending part way into the background. Still visible are unobtrusive stains, mild toning, and a faint ink stamp over the Warner Bros. logo. There are several pieces of paper tape and a couple of pieces of cellophane tape on the verso bracing some of these issues. The verso also has some writing and an ink stamp. Certainly a a rare item, collectors shouldn't let the chance to own this photobusta slip through their fingers.
