Description

Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1947). Very Fine on Linen. First Post-War Release French Half Grande (31.5" X 46.5") Pierre Pigeot Artwork.
Offered in this lot is a very scarce poster, a smaller format French half grande with magnificent artwork by Pierre Pigeot. Almost three years ago, Heritage sold the larger format with less intense colors for $239,000! There is no doubt about how this classic picture was being promoted in Europe. Ingrid Bergman was an international star, and far more popular in Europe than her co-stars, Humphrey Bogart and Paul Henried. Bergman dominates this first post-war release French poster, overshadowing Bogart and Sydney Greenstreet as they linger over a chess game. It has received touchup to the folds, pinholes, and a few small tears in the borders. Some of the pinholes are in the image area, including a few in Bogart and Bergman's images. Otherwise, this poster is in fantastic shape and should be at the top of the list for any fan of classic cinema.
