Description
Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1942). Folded, Very Fine. Australian Daybill (13" X 30").Casablanca is one of the most celebrated films in cinema history, and its behind-the-scenes trivia is as legendary as the movie itself. The script was being rewritten constantly, even as filming took place, and the actors often didn't know how the story would end until the final scenes were shot. Humphrey Bogart, at just 5'8", had to stand on boxes or sit on cushions in some scenes to appear taller than Ingrid Bergman. The film was based on an unproduced play called Everybody Comes to Rick's, which Warner Bros. bought for a then-unusual $20,000. Bogart had never played a romantic lead before, and there was little rehearsal between him and Bergman. "Here's looking at you, kid" wasn't originally in the script, it was improvised by Bogart and later repeated multiple times. Despite its rushed production and modest expectations, the film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and remains a touchstone of Hollywood's Golden Age. There are two minute chips within Bogart's hand and the 'For General Exhibition' snipe is pasted on. The poster is otherwise in wonderful condition.
