    Description

    Casablanca: Café Chair (Warner Bros., 1942). Fine+. Screen-Used Prop Chairs (2) (34" X 15" X 15").
An ultra rare prize for fans of this cinematic classic, Heritage presents these bamboo and rattan chairs once used in the scenes of Rick's Café Américain in Casablanca. These wicker woven pieces come from the collection of John Myhre, a two-time Academy Award-winning production designer noted for his work on Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha. Myhre purchased the chairs at the 1983 Cinema Mercantile Co. prop house liquidation sale, where many other items from the interior of the Café were also sold, including other chairs, lamps, and even Sam's iconic piano. As it has been eighty years since Casablanca was filmed, the chairs have encountered an expected degree of wear over the decades. Most noticeably, there is some loss in the woven rattan backing and bindings, as well as some surface scuffs and wear in the varnished finish. Like other chairs from the scene that have survived to today, there is a red wooden board attached to the top of the seat. This was most likely added by the prop department for increased durability when the chairs were potentially used in other productions. A chance to own a piece of movie history like this is a very rare opportunity indeed, and one that serious collectors would not want to miss!
