Casablanca - As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson (Warner Bros., 1942). Very Fine-. Radio Transcription Disc (16 Inch).
When Casablanca became a huge hit in 1942, the song "As Time Goes By" also became extremely popular. Dooley Wilson (as Sam), sang it in the film, but was unable to record it commercially due to the 1942-44 musicians' strike. However, he could make radio broadcasts of it, and this is one of those. Done specifically for broadcast, this oversize 16 inch transcription disc recording could only be played at radio stations, who had special turntable players for it. These discs were sent to the stations for specific air dates and were never offered for sale to the public. The record is in excellent shape. It is is stamped Presto Recording Corp., Dooley Wilson, and "As Time Goes By" is etched on the label, the song title is also written, along with numbers listing the bands. The "x" marks on some of the bands were done by the station, so that particular band would not be played.
