    A Submarine Pirate (Triangle-Keystone/S.A. Lynch, 1915). One Sheet (27.5" X 41").
An inventor and his accomplice plan to rob a ship carrying gold bullion by using a submarine. A waiter (Syd Chaplin) overhears their plans, buys himself an admiral's uniform, tricks his way into command of the sub and plots to take the ship himself. Interestingly, Chaplin worked as a steward on a ship while a teenager, financially supporting both his mother and half brother (Charlie Chaplin). In 1914, Syd followed Charlie to Hollywood and secured a contract with Mack Sennett. He acted for some time as Charlie's manager, but later struck out on his own and was given starring roles. His best film is regarded to be the silent version of Charley's Aunt (1925). Syd made his last films in Great Britain, but did not take to sound pictures and left the business in the early 1930s. Presented for the first time by Heritage, this half sheet sports a fantastic stone litho image of our hapless hero. Restoration has applied touchup to the folds and small chips in the borders. It has also addressed mirrored vertical creases in the background, one of which has some paper loss in the upper right, the other with small chips and background tears. Fine+ on Linen.
