DescriptionA Fistful of Dollars by Fred Otnes (United Artists, 1967). Very Fine+. Original Mixed Media Poster Artwork on Illustration Board (25" X 31").
Heritage is pleased to offer this original artwork by Fred Otnes (1925-2015) comprised of collage and painted components. Otnes is known for his collage paintings and works that served as the illustrations for movie posters, postage stamps, and magazine covers, his most famous of which was the cover for The Saturday Evening Post on January 14, 1967 for a featured article on the conspiracy theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination. Undoubtedly Ontes' most well-known poster art is this piece for A Fistful of Dollars. Not only the film that catapulted Clint Eastwood into the limelight, this picture also marked Eastwood's first starring role. With a prominent image of Eastwood as the "Man With No Name" at the forefront, Otnes' collage features other actors from Sergio Leone's ground-breaking Spaghetti Western, including Marianne Koch, Gian Maria Volontè, and Wolfgang Lukschy. We believe that this is the original artwork used for the one sheet and was manipulated to create the advance styles A and B one sheets. In great condition, the artwork shows only a couple of slight stains and a few minute chips in the paint at the right edge from handling. Fans of Eastwood and Leone will not want to miss the opportunity to make this artwork a focal point of their collection.
Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000.
