DescriptionA Day at the Races (MGM, 1940). Spanish One Sheet (27.75" X 39.25") Fuchs Artwork.
Fantastic artwork of the lovable Marx Brothers fills this rare Spanish one sheet for A Day at the Races. The picture stands as perhaps one of the Marx Brothers' last great comedies, as their advocate Irving Thalberg, legendary MGM film producer, died during production. Made just after the hugely successful A Night at the Opera, this time the boys are trying to save a sanatorium from being turned into a racetrack. With a style reminiscent of Al Hirschfeld's famous caricatures, this illustration by Fuchs' looks great after light partial touchup was applied to the folds, pinholes into the interior, and a couple of tears at the bottom, one of which extends from the bottom border up to the "S" in "Las." There are a couple of small chips in the vertical fold. Fine/Vey Fine on Paper.
Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
