    Description

A Clockwork Orange (Warner Brothers, 1973). Rolled, Very Fine+. One Sheet (25.75" X 41"). First Printing/Silk Screen of Alternate Style, "Directors' Quotes," David Pelham Artwork.
To highlight his film's new R rating, Stanley Kubrick chose David Pelham's artwork from the paperback edition of the famous Burgess novel for the movie's new poster. This offered example comes from a consignor who worked with the actual art director that produced the piece. That talented man came from New York where he worked for Joe Caroff Associates, and later moved to LA to work for Warner Brothers advertising. This "Review" version, with quotes by filmmakers, was the first Pelham version created and released. It was rushed into production so quickly that, rather than print traditionally via offset, Warner Brothers chose to print a small run in silkscreen, so that it would immediately be available! The subtle silkscreen printing can be verified by the trapping between colors on the poster and the large dot pattern seen in the yellow glow from the hat to the orange background. This version is the far more rare of the two printings, and a true understanding of its scarcity has finally been realized! Signs of handling include slight edge wear, small creases, and a few very minor tears. Rolled, Very Fine+.
