    20th Century (Columbia, 1934). Jumbo Lobby Cards (3) (14" X 17").
This remarkable lot includes three of eight exquisite jumbo lobby cards offered in the March 2014 Movie Poster Signature Auction. Heritage is extremely proud to bring these pieces to auction, as they are exceedingly rare. We have previously offered midget window cards, lobby cards and Swedish one sheets for this title, but the jumbo lobby cards are quite elusive. They hail from Howard Hawks' 1934 prototypical screwball comedy, which includes all the necessary elements -- a dingy dame (Carole Lombard), an affable but slightly dense leading man (John Barrymore), plenty of snappy dialogue, and a touch of slapstick. Full bleed and printed on a special pebble-finish stock, the jumbo lobby cards have benefited from expert restoration. The dashing portrait of Barrymore has had 1" of the right border and 2" of the left border replaced. The closeup portrait of Barrymore and Lombard has had 1" of the top border and 2" of the bottom border replaced. The third image has had 2" of the top border replaced, and 1" of the bottom border with punch holes has been reattached and touched up. Great care was taken to match the paper stock for the replacement pieces, and the lobby cards now display beautifully. Good+.
