Description

    20th Century (Columbia, 1934). Jumbo Lobby Cards (3) (14" X 17").
Carole Lombard and John Barrymore were cast (respectively) as the rising star and the Broadway producer who develops her career in this sensational comedy. Many feel that this was the film that helped establish the screwball comedy as a separate genre and one that was to gain popularity throughout the rest of the 1930s. Lombard was so well suited for the genre, she would go on to make several more comedies of this style. Barrymore declared that this was among his favorite films. These three jumbo lobby cards are part of a set of eight offered in the March Signature Auction, all of which are nearly impossible to find. Full bleed and printed on a special pebble-finish stock, the jumbo lobby cards have benefited from expert restoration. The profile portrait card of Lombard and Barrymore has had 2" of the left border and 1 1/2" of the right border replaced. The "ball gown" image has had 2" of the bottom border and 1/2" of the top border replaced. The "embrace" card has had 2" of the right border and 1/2" of the left border replaced. Careful attention was paid to the restoration of these cards, specifically to match the paper stock for the replacement pieces. These beauties are now highly presentable. Good+.
