    Description

Thonon Les Bains Travel Poster (Paris Lyon Mediteranée Rail Line,1929). Poster (24.5" X 39.25").
Paris born illustrator Roger Broders (1883-1953) visually transports weary souls to the idyllic spa town of Thonon-les-Bains, the capital of the Chablais region of France nestled along the shore of Lake Geneva. Known for its thermal baths and stunning lake and mountain vistas, the town became a haven for early 20th century city dwellers wishing to escape the hustle and bustle. Hired in the 1920s by the PLM railway to assist in boosting travel, Broders often incorporated in his posters a special detail that was a nod to a line of transport. Notice in the right background a partial paddle steamer with the letters "Sav..." on the side. This was the Savoie, built in 1914 by Compagnie Generale de Navigation, the operation providing lake crossings between Switzerland and France. A first time offer from Heritage, this stone litho poster with lush colors and impressive condition is an exceptional find, as Broders's work is increasingly popular with collectors. Very Fine+ on Linen.
