    Description

    Louise Brooks (c.1929). Very Fine-. Framed Pastel Portrait (Portrait: 17" X 21", Frame: 26" X 32").
Painted from a photograph of Louise Brooks taken for the 1928 film A Girl in Every Port, this beautiful pastel portrait graced the cover of the French language movie weekly VU - Journal De la Semaine. Her fame at this time in Europe was as great, if not greater, than in America and her image was seen on magazines throughout the continent. Though talented and beautiful, she was outspoken and ahead of her time in her views of women in society. She gave up a film career by refusing to return to do voice dubbing for the sound release of The Canary Murder Case and was black-balled throughout the industry. Original cover art from this era is very hard to find and this pastel is nicely matted and framed in a gold, Art Deco frame from the same period. The only issues visible on the portrait are some surface scuffs in the right and left background, leaving Brooks' image completely intact. The frame does show some wear, but this is not factored into the grade. Due to the size/weight of the item shipping costs may be higher than usual.
