London, Midland, & Scottish Railway Company Travel Poster (c. 1930). Poster (40" X 50") Kendal from Oxenholme, London - Lake District Line, Artist: Norman Wilkinson .Artist Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) designed this pastoral beauty for the London Midland & Scottish Railway to promote the London - Lake District Line. Viewers can gaze out from the artist's vantage point of Oxenholme, which overlooks the quaint village of Kendal in Cumbria. After studying at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art, Wilkinson began his career as an illustrator in 1898 with the Illustrated London News. He went on to design posters for several rail lines including the LMS. It was at his suggestion that the company commission a number of Royal Academy artists to design a successful series of posters beginning in 1924. Only touchup to a tear in the right border, two small holes in the left border, and one in the top and bottom border was required. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
