    Description

    Harley-Davidson Motorcycles (Harley Davidson, 1915). Advertising Poster (22" X 32.5") & Promotional Material (2) (8" X 11" & 8" X 11.5").
In the world of motorcycle production, Harley-Davidson is a name that no doubt comes to mind. Prominently featured in classic films such as Easy Rider and The Wild One, Harley-Davidson motorcycles represent more than just transportation, they're a state of mind. Founded in the early 20th century, the American based manufacturer is one that takes great pride in the bikes they produce, which has led to a highly dedicated fan base. In the early years, the company decided to form a racing team to compete in national competitions, and enlisted the talents of a young racer named Leslie "Red" Parkhurst. While riding for Harley-Davidson, Parkhurst would set speed records, and take the top prize in several races, including the massive 100-mile event on the dirt track in Saratoga, New York in 1915. This magnificent and incredibly rare advertising poster was created shortly after the Saratoga race, and boasts of Parkhurst's incredible performance, which he completed in a mere 1:37 minutes and 31 seconds. Parkhurst, who was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998, is seen tearing up the track at the top of the poster, with a grinning portrait of the rider at the bottom. Also included are Harley-Davidson promotional materials that include images of slides and signage used by dealers to advertise bikes, side cars, and other accessories, as well as an image of a stunning poster featuring artwork by Henry J. Soulen. The original envelope in which the promotional materials were shipped is included. Prior to restoration, the poster had a tear in the lower corners, and a very tiny chip in the center crossfold. Touchup work has been done to the folds. Not to be missed, this incredibly rare lot is one that is sure to leave Harley-Davidson riders in hog heaven. Very Fine- on Linen.
