    Description

Great Barrier Reef Travel Poster (Queensland Government Tourist Bureau, 1930s). Poster (28" X 39.25").
This very rare Australian travel poster is the work of commercial artist Percy Trompf (1902-1964), whose light, carefree images were in high demand for travel posters during the Great Depression. In sumptuous stone litho color, Trompf depicts a bronzed, fresh-faced traveler basking in the sunshine, as beachcombers sift through the powdery sand just behind her. The tagline reads "For a Different Holiday," enticing intrepid travelers to discover the splendor of one of the seven wonders of the natural world, the Great Barrier Reef. Only light restoration was applied to a chip in the top right corner, and surface paper loss in the corners and top border. Very Fine- on Linen.
