Cycles Rochet (Camis, c. 1890's). Advertising Poster (49" X 74.5"). Oliver Pichat Artwork.
One of the earliest French cycling companies, Rochet's inception began in the late 19th century. As competition began to grow, the company turned to advertising in order to maintain their share of the marketplace. Hoping to enhance their prestige with the public by associating their bicycles with the Army, Rochet commissioned this majestic piece from noted French painter, Oliver Pichat. This magnificent stone litho suggests the quality of Rochet Cycles by advocating them for military use. From the stoic subject matter to the bright array of colors this vibrant poster will make a great addition to any collection. Though backed on linen, this poster has no further signs of restoration. Some issues include edge wear, slight creases, and small tears. There is a minor splice and a small stain in the left border, a minor tear near the 'R' in the title, and slight foxing in the lower right image. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
